Overview

Dhampus Peak, also known as Thapa Peak by locals, is located in the middle of the Dhaulagiri Mountain. Dhampus Mountain, located in the northern Annapurna region of Nepal, is a famous non-technical trekking peak. Dhampus Mountain Climbing is a beautiful trekking peak in Nepal that rises 6,012 m above sea level and is located in the lap of the Tukuche Peak and Dhaulagiri Himal. The Dhampus peak ridge follows the massive interfluve ridge that separates the Upper Dolpo and Upper Mustang regions. You will walk the lonely Dhaulagiri circuit, bending out towards the mountain in the Hidden Valley. You will join the route at Dhampus La pass after summiting. The peak is simple to reach and requires no special equipment.

The view of some of the world’s tallest mountains, including Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna Massif, from the peak summit, is the big attraction of the Dhampus Peak climbing trek. The journey also provides an opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna of the Annapurna Conservation Area’s subalpine and temperate highlands. In addition, observing the distinct culture and traditions of the ethnic Thakali and Tibetan Buddhist communities living in the old Mustang is an unforgettable experience. Dhampus Peak provides an excellent perspective of the neighbouring high mountains, including Dhaulagiri (8,163 m), Sita Chuchura(peak) (6,611 m), Nilgiri (6,940 m), Tukuche Peak (6,920 m), Tilicho Peak (7,134 m), Thorong Peak (6,484 m), Yaskawa Kan (6,482 m), Putha Hiunchuli (7,246 m), Mukut Himal 6,639 m, Tangu Peak (6197 m, Hongde peak 6,556 m, Tsarste 6,347 m and more landscape. The Dhampus peak is snowy and slightly steep, but it is simple and less physically challenging. For eight days, there is an average of 5 to 6 hours of trekking every day, with one climbing day. At the peak, it reaches a maximum altitude of 6,012m/19,724ft. Although prior peak climbing experience is not required, one must be physically fit to have the best climbing experience of their life.

Today we will continue our trek by walking a beautiful and peaceful path. Ghasa is a little village where the walkways appear to be under construction. We will continue our walk to Larjung which is 31 kilometers (20 miles) away from Larjung. As we trek, we had to climb through some thorn bushes, over stone walls, and across someone’s field to get back on the footpath. Once there, it will be worth the crazy detour. We stumble upon a goat herder with hundreds of goats all taking a nap in the shade of the pine trees. This path connected back with the main road. On the other side of the road, a path picks back up, hence we will reach Larjung village.

After a brief climb, we contour on a trail high to Marpha this morning. Larjung is a very quiet village where people prefer silence. The road to Larjung followed the river in the valley below, pines covering the mountains above. Walking first through the village of Kobang, here the road wide and muddy, we eventually turned off the road on a stone paved trail lined by stone fences and fields leading into Larjung. From here, we ascend the other side of the slope down a wide trail/road through pines that eventually deposited us along the banks of a rushing river.
